Once you have applied to JCCC, attend New Student Orientation.

Orientation Will Explain:

New Student Orientation is a great way to meet other students and learn important information. You will complete the Personal Admission Plan at orientation - this is a requirement for first-time students. New Student Orientation is offered in-person, live via Zoom and through online videos.

Live On-Campus Orientations

On-campus orientation sessions meet in the New Student Orientation Room (SC 105). This room is on the 1st floor of the Student Center (SC). Here, you will meet your success advocate in person.

Registration is required. Use your JCCC username and password and register for an orientation on the calendar below.

Live Virtual Orientations

Live virtual orientations are offered through Zoom. Attending this presentation gives you the opportunity to engage with other students and meet your success advocate in a virtual format.

Registration is required. You will need your JCCC username and password to register for an orientation on the calendar below. A reminder email with the Zoom link will be sent to your stumail account one day before your orientation.

Online Orientations

Online orientations are available if you can't attend a live virtual or on-campus orientation session. Watch the orientation videos and complete the required Pathways Survey. In about one business day after you watch the videos, your Personal Admission Plan will show that you completed an orientation. Please note, online orientation completions will not be processed on days that JCCC is closed.

Don’t have a computer at home? Both the online and live virtual versions of our New Student Orientation can be completed on a smartphone. You may also use a computer at JCCC. Computers are located in the Student Success Center on the 2nd floor of the Student Center. If you choose to attend a virtual orientation, be sure to download the Zoom app before you begin.

If you do not have access to your stumail account or need help accessing Zoom, contact the Technical Support Center at 913-469-8500, ext. 4357.

Why Orientation Is Important

New Student Orientation is necessary. At Johnson County Community College, we require all first-year students to attend an orientation session of their choosing. Here are some reasons why orientation is important at JCCC:

  • Make new friends: At orientation, you meet people from different places and backgrounds. You could find new friends and connections before the first day of classes.
  • Register for classes: You will receive program-specific academic advising to learn about your degree requirements and find classes that you might be interested in exploring.
  • Learn about tutoring and resources: If you need help or guidance while at JCCC, orientation shares tips to locate campus resources that can help you succeed.
  • Explore campus activities: Are you thinking about participating in a sport, activity, or club? At orientation, you can discover an interest or maybe something you weren’t initially considering, like a new hobby or community.
  • Receive tips for transitioning to college: Orientation offers guidance on time management, living a healthy lifestyle, campus safety, and academic honesty—among other things.
