Erin Cowan BSRC, RRT-NPS

Clinical Assistant Professor

Erin Cowan began her career at Children’s Mercy Hospital in 1997 as a student tech. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Care from the University of Kansas in 1998 and earned her Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS) Certification in 2013. Erin has dedicated her entire 28+ year career to Children’s Mercy, where she has gained extensive clinical experience caring for pediatric, neonatal, and critically ill patients.

In addition to serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Erin continues her clinical work to remain current in the field and to bring real-world, hands-on experience to her students. She is a member of the Fetal Health Care Team, a BLS instructor, NPS instructor, preceptor, and is actively involved in numerous clinical simulations at Children’s Mercy Hospital.  She is also a member of the AARC and the NBRC.

Outside of her professional role, Erin lives in Peculiar, Missouri, with her husband, Dan and their two dogs. Erin and Dan have two daughters, Molly and Laura.  Molly and her husband Grady live in the KC metro and Laura is finishing up her Turf Management/Agronomy studies at Rutgers.  Erin enjoys balancing her career, teaching, and family life.
