Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format 

Face-to-face sections are typically paced out and a calendar is provided to students so that they can prepare for class with each session.  Each class session is based on lecture, class participation, small groups and student presentations. 

Online sections are typically self paced with specific deadlines for assignments, quizzes and tests.  Students are encouraged to ask questions and seek information when they need more understanding. Deadlines are enforced but students do have multiple opportunities to complete assignments.

Resource Use

Textbooks are essential to any Math class.  Students will need to purchase books prior to the start of class to begin class with the right start.

Calculators are essential to each class but specific classes will require specific classes.  I teach mainly 111, 115, 116, 171 and 181.  The TI-84 is adequate for each of these classes.

Computer software is used exclusively for online courses, but not typically for face to face classes

Online homework is used typically for online classes.

Assessment

Students will complete homework on a regular basis.  Most assignments will be graded by taking homework quizzes.  Regular unit tests will also be given and compose the largest part of a students grade.

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned but not always collected.  Rather students take homework quizzes to demonstrate mastery of concepts. 

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to be in class for each class session.  Homework quizzes cannot be made up.  The lowest test grade can be replaced with the final exam if the final exam grade is better.  If a student misses a class they will receive a zero but the final will replace this grade at the conclusion of the semester.
