Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Math
Class Format
Typical Class Format - All classes are taught as Self-paced sections. Self-paced courses allow students to take up to 9 months to finish the course using a self-study format. Students will work through course software and then come to the JCCC testing center to take paper/pencil exams.
Resource Use
A software license is required for all courses. A Physical Textbook is optional for all courses since the required online software will include an ebook.
Calculators are used to supplement the learning. The appropriate use of calculators is discussed in many contexts. For MATH 173 and above a graphing calculator is required.
Online homework is used extensively for Math 201 and Math 241.
Assessment
Typically, a student’s grade will be composed of scores on online homework, unit exams and the final exam. All testing must be completed live proctored in a college or university testing center. Students who live outside of the KC area will need to locate an approved college or university testing center willing to proctor their exams. Outside testing centers (other than the JCCC testing center) will likely charge a proctoring fee for each test taken.
Homework Policy
Online homework done in a course software system is a required part of the course.
Attendance Policy
Students should plan to have their first exam taken 3-6 weeks after starting the course.
