Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Face-to-face sections are moderately paced with emphasis on conceptual understanding. Examples are used for computation, applications and some theory. Students are encouraged to ask questions at anytime during class.

Online sections: None

Resource Use

Textbooks are important to supplement the lecture and in-class examples (especially if a student is absent). Homework is assigned from the text for most classes and the text provides many additional problems for practice.

Calculators are used in every course.  A financial calculator is required for Math 120, a scientific calculator is required for courses prerequisite to College Algebra and a graphing calculator is required for Math 171 and above.

Computer software if needed, will be available in the Math Resource Center. Microsoft Excel is used in Math 120 and web-based may be used in any math course.

Online homework is assigned in Math 120, but is not used in other courses.

Assessment

Homework is assigned and graded for all classes. There are also 3 or 4 tests and a final exam.  The homework usually makes up about 20% of the final grade.

Homework Policy

Homework is to be used as a learning tool.  For most homework assigned, students will have access to the answers, but need to show a correct process for reaching that answer.  Assistance from MRC tutors is available for help with homework assignments.  Late homework is rarely accepted.

Attendance Policy

Absence is not part of the grade, but students who miss classes are also missing the information they need to be successful in their class. No makeup exams are given. If a student misses a test, a replacement grade will be created from the final exam.
