What will I learn in JCCC's Game Development program?

Turn your love of gaming into a money-making career! Be your own hero and master high-demand skills that translate into professional success. During this four-semester associate degree program, you’ll create your own customized game and develop the technical skillset to work as a game designer or game programmer.

You’ll use the latest industry-standard hardware and software to create games that build your portfolio.

Develop specialized skills that apply to other rewarding jobs in simulation or data visualization. Industries including healthcare, education and marketing value the interdisciplinary skillset of innovation, entrepreneurship and teambuilding you gain through a JCCC education.

Choose from two tracks, online or in person. In four semesters, you can graduate with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in:

Game Design – Are you a creative, critical thinker who enjoys world-building and visual storytelling? Unleash your imagination in the game design track. As a designer, you work in teams to develop the game world, quests and combat. Collaborate with other artists to determine the mood, style and mechanics of the game, including the assets and animation.

Game Programming – Do you enjoy unpacking the technical side of your favorite forms of entertainment? Bring artistic visions to life as a game programmer—an inventive career that combines the creativity of game creation with the problem-solving skills of programming. Take a designer’s concept and make it a reality through computer languages such as C#, C++ and Python.

JCCC was one of the first schools in the nation to offer gaming as a major and it’s still a notable innovator. Through interactive learning with advancing technology, you’ll master emerging trends in artificial intelligence, virtual reality and action-oriented storytelling.

Our interdisciplinary approach teaches you the business side of the gaming industry, giving you an entrepreneurial edge. You’ll also develop strong collaborative skills through teambuilding projects and networking opportunities.
