Earn your associate degree and transfer to any Kansas public university as you work toward a bachelor’s degree to become a licensed elementary teacher.
Fulfill your dream of teaching children
Through the first 60 credits hours of JCCC’s elementary education courses, you will learn:
- How to manage a classroom
- How to communicate with students, parents and administrators
- How to teach a variety of elementary subjects
- How children develop, learn, think, and communicate
This pathway identifies courses that can be taken at the community college level and reflect the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) General Education framework and recommended education coursework. Take the first 60 credit hours at JCCC that count toward a 120-credit-hour Pre-K-6 elementary education degree at any Kansas university. The remaining 60 hours at a four-year university are the required courses to complete the elementary education degree.
You also will have the opportunity to take a wide variety of electives that fit your educational interests.
Make a seamless transition to the school of your choosing. Our Transfer Services office can help ensure you meet all the necessary requirements.
Practice Elementary Education
JCCC offers many tools and resources to aid in your success of becoming an early childhood education professional. Learn about early childhood education through the lens of DAP (Developmentally Appropriate Practice), which emphasizes families and other community agencies as important entities in a child’s early learning experiences. Both class and lab course content incorporate the DAP model.
Learn from experienced instructors with real-world experience. Each of our Early Childhood Education instructors has worked hands-on in early childhood education while also studying child development and the most effective approaches to teaching.
Additionally, our Early Childhood Education Advisory Board made up of education professionals and health and wellness experts provide guidance and community connections to the program.
Thanks to our partnership with the Hiersteiner Child Development Center (HCDC), learning doesn’t just happen in books. HCDC is our nationally accredited, licensed facility for children of JCCC students, faculty, and staff, and the community. The facility provides education and care to young students, while also providing you with real-world experience.
