Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is excited to announce the new AT&T Public Safety Scholarship for students who attend the Firefighting Certificate program in Spring 2025. The scholarship is made possible thanks to a $20,000 contribution from AT&T.

"With heartfelt gratitude, we thank AT&T for their generous scholarship grant,” said Joy Ginsburg, JCCC Foundation Executive Director. “This support is instrumental in enhancing fire safety at JCCC, enabling us to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to safeguard our communities. Together, we're building a safer future.”

The AT&T Public Safety Scholarship helps students in need to enroll in JCCC’s Firefighting Certificate program. Eligible students will receive a $1,000 scholarship towards their tuition.

JCCC’s Firefighting Certificate prepares students for employment in fire services. Students participate in specific live fire training scenarios that prepare them for their state certification skills tests through the Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute. Upon completion, they can take state certification exams in Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Emergency Medical Technician.

“At AT&T, we’ve been given the responsibility of building out the FirstNet® wireless broadband network built specifically for public safety in Kansas and across the United States,” said Laine Raitinger, Lead External Affairs manager for AT&T Kansas. “We’re also helping to inspire and prepare the next generation of first responders in Kansas, which is why we created the AT&T Public Safety Scholarship program.  We appreciate those who answer the call to serve their communities.”
