Eligible Johnson County businesses can apply for up to $25,000 to train employees.

Eligible Johnson County businesses can now apply for awards up to $25,000 to provide employee training through the Workforce Development and Continuing Education program at JCCC.

Short-term training is available for a variety of industries and jobs, including computer and information technology, healthcare, transportation and logistics, advanced manufacturing, construction, skilled trades, general business skills development and more. JCCC provides in-person, online, and hybrid training options.

The Workforce Development and Continuing Education team will also work with business owners to customize a specific curriculum for their employees, in addition to a wide variety of trainings and courses to learn new skills.

“These funds allow JCCC to strengthen our economy by supporting training for individuals who are seeking new skills and by offering businesses the opportunity to train their existing employees in the specific skills needed to grow,” said Elisa Waldman, Vice President, Workforce Development and Continuing Education. “Short-term workforce training typically occurs in weeks or months and often results in a marketable license or industry credential for the student.”

Eligible businesses must demonstrate impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. Proof of impact can include prior approval of a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan or Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) or decline in gross revenue of at least 20% between 2019-2022. The business's 2022 gross revenue must be less than or equal to its 2019 gross revenue.

The Continuing Education Training Awards were made possible by the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners and an allocation of federal Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. The funding has helped provide nearly 200 Johnson County residents with training to fill in-demand jobs, increase income and strengthen the local economy.
