LERN cites JCCC’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education’s work with NCircle as basis for award

The Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division at Johnson County Community College was recently recognized by the Learning Resources Network (LERN) with an International Award in Lifelong Learning. LERN is a membership organization that supports organizations that provide continuing education courses to their communities. Members include colleges and universities as well as parks and recreation departments and associations.

The award was announced at the November 2023 LERN Annual Conference. William Draves, LERN President, cited JCCC’s work with NCircle, an organization that serves families and individuals affected by the criminal justice system, as well as JCCC’s work with other area organizations, when presenting the award. “The award is for innovation in the field of lifelong learning and serving communities. These awards enhance the quality and involvement in lifelong learning, an absolutely critical component to individual and community quality of life and prosperity in this century,” said Draves in LERN’s release announcing the award.

“It’s exciting and validating to have our innovative work with NCircle recognized with this award,” says Elisa Waldman, Vice President, Workforce Development and Continuing Education; Waldman also serves on the national LERN Board of Directors. “We value our partnership with NCircle, and are proud of the work we’ve accomplished together to ensure members of our community who are impacted by incarceration have opportunities to gain new skills to support meaningful careers.”

JCCC was one of 20 member organizations recognized with awards at the LERN conference.
