The National Communication Association has named Johnson County Community College professor Terri Easley-Giraldo, PhD, JCCC chair of Communication Studies, as recipient of its 2023 Michael and Suzanne Osborn Community College Outstanding Educator Award.

This annual award recognizes an NCA member who has made positive contributions through teaching at a community college and who has shown excellence in teaching, scholarship and service to the speech and communication profession.

Easley-Giraldo was selected for her contributions to JCCC, which include mentoring students, crafting innovative teaching approaches in the classroom, championing community-based learning, and co-advising Latinos United Now and Always (LUNA), a campus organization that provides opportunities for JCCC students to learn about and promote Latin culture.

“Dr. Easley-Giraldo is a dedicated faculty member who actively pursues excellence in and out of the classroom,” said Jim Lane, Dean of Arts, Design, Humanities and Social Sciences. “JCCC is pleased to see her efforts recognized by the NCA and we congratulate her on this award.”

Easley-Giraldo is chair of the Communication Studies department and teaches subjects that include intercultural communication, gender and leadership, and public speaking. She joined the JCCC faculty in 2005.
