What will I learn?

Sharpen the skills you need to find an entry-level position in this high-demand field. In four semesters, you will develop the mastery needed for entry-level software development and related positions, including:  

  • The fundamentals of UNIX scripting and utilities
  • Database management
  • How to write programming algorithms using general purpose C++, multi-purpose C# and JavaScript
  • How to code, test and debug a series of commands that gradually become a working program

You can choose from two paths:

Associate of Applied Science, Computer Information Systems

Focusing on the technical subjects and management of IT and administrative networks, you will work with databases, programmers and developers to become a problem-solver. 

Associate of Science with an emphasis in Information Systems Technology

Learn how to administer and manage local and wide area networks with an emphasis in creating and maintaining databases. You will learn basic networking and programming. These credit hours will transfer seamlessly to the University of Kansas Edwards Campus, where in just two additional years you can earn a bachelor's degree in information technology.


JCCC faculty bring real-world scenarios to the classroom for you to learn the most relevant and current practices and techniques. You will learn with sophisticated tools, from expert business partners and through hands-on building. Hone your skills to find your specialty, like wireless applications, multimedia technology or cybersecurity. You will have the opportunity to discover.
