Get a global overview of sciences and general principles

Through scientific investigation, you can discover how chemistry, geology, physics, and astronomy overlap and interact. Take this course if you are unsure about the sciences and have not taken math classes beyond high school algebra.

You’ll also fulfill your science and laboratory requirements for most associate degrees or certification programs at JCCC. If you’re thinking about transferring to another college or university, physical science acts as a great prerequisite for professional industries such as agriculture, engineering, medicine, nursing, and several health occupations.

In three hours of class and three hours of labs each week, you will cover:

  • Forces
  • Energy
  • Electricity
  • Magnetism
  • Modern Physics
  • Chemical bonding

Physical Science (PSCI 120) is designed for nonscience majors to fulfill a core credit that meets the science and lab requirements for most associate degrees or certificate programs at JCCC.

Credit students can get academic help and free tutoring, including access to textbooks and models, at JCCC’s Science Resource Center

Looking for a career in the sciences?

An associate degree in physical science gives you a wide overview of scientific fields, including physics, chemistry, geoscience, and more. Fields that require an overlap of scientific knowledge include:

  • Lab Assistant
  • Physical Science Technician
  • Engineering Aides
  • Quality Control Officer
You may also decide to pursue further scientific education at a four-year university, where a certificate in physical science can come in handy for future careers like:

  • Chemist
  • Geologist
  • Geophysicist
  • Meteorologist
  • Physicist
  • Astronomer

JCCC’s Physical Science courses could also be transferable prerequisite for professional industries such as agriculture, engineering, medicine, nursing, and several health occupations.
