Zak Pischnotte Adjunct Associate Professor

Zak Pischnotte is a highly versatile music educator and saxophonist based in the Kansas City area. He began his teaching career as a public school band director in Western Nebraska before starting his graduate studies. He received his DMA in Music Performance from the University of Kansas under the guidance of Vince Gnojek and also served as a TA to Dan Gailey’s Downbeat-award-winning jazz department. He is in his fifth year at JCCC and currently teaches Intro to Music Listening, Jazz Listening, Rock and Roll, and Applied Woodwinds.

He can be heard on a regular basis with the soul-jazz group Chris Hazelton’s Boogaloo 7 and the avant-garde People’s Liberation Big Band of Greater Kansas City. His most recent recording credits include L.A.-based pop artist Dorian Electra, the KC noise group HXXS, and his free improvisation trio. He has enjoyed steady work as a woodwind doubler and has played shows at Starlight Theatre, New Theatre, and Music Theatre Heritage.
