Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Spanish
Teaching style
I use a combination of grammar review, discussion and group activities in class. The amount of Spanish I use varies based on the level.
Homework, participation and attendance
Participation and attendance are 15% of your grade. Attendance is very important! I give quizzes to help students “study along the way.” Students need to dedicate 1-2 hours outside of class for each hour of class time.
Tests and quizzes
Chapter Tests are 30% of the total grade, there is also a midterm exam (10%), final exam (15%) and an oral exam (10%). Students can drop one chapter test by doing a cultural project so that usually takes care of emergencies.
Background and other interests
During college I worked in rural Guatemala, studied in Spain one summer and spent a year attending La Universidad de Costa Rica. I have also traveled to El Salvador, Nicaragua and Colombia. I also enjoy assisting with various outreach activities for Hispanics in our community.
