Architecture, construction, and engineering rely on drafting technology to plan, design, and execute projects. In four semesters, you learn how to prepare technical drawings using the latest technology.

JCCC’s state-of-the-art software, up-to-date equipment, and experienced professors are here to help you to become a drafting technician. Each Drafting Technology professor teaches and then gives you one-on-one attention as you practice each concept. Discipline-specific classes in architecture and civil, mechanical, and structural design sharpen your skills even more.
CAD technicians with advanced skills use software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and SketchUp. These programs are standards in the industry, and you’ll learn them at JCCC using a hands-on approach.
Part of our CAD program involves gaining more real-world experience from job shadowing and internship opportunities at local firms and businesses where CAD skills make you a vital part of a team. Architectural firms, construction companies, specialized design services, and manufacturing firms employ technicians who have the skills taught at JCCC.
When you’re not in class, hang out with like-minded students who share your passion through one of our clubs and organizations.
- Construction Specification Institute: Student Chapter at JCCC – Gain insight into the construction field and network with professionals.
- Engineering and Math Club of JCCC – Work on engineering skills and group dynamics in this fun club especially for engineering students.
- Computer Club – Expand your knowledge of computer programs, apps, and games in this group that attracts tech lovers from many career paths.
Technology, tutoring, and academic support
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers free quality services including tutoring for all JCCC students to help them be successful in their coursework. Find the ARC on the first floor of the Library.
Continue your education and earn a bachelor’s or a master’s degree. Talk with a counselor to learn more about transferring to a 4-year college or university. If you need help with career decisions, talk with a career coach in the Career Development Center.
