Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Chemistry
Class format
Face-to-face sections: The class consists of lectures and announced quizzes with several exams scheduled during the course of the semester. In-class time consists of lectures, answering questions and practice problem solving. Laboratory courses involve practical lab experiments with pre-lab lectures.
Resource use
Textbook use is supplementary to the lectures.
Online homework is used for general chemistry courses (but not for biochemistry).
A non-programmable calculator is required.
Assessment
General chemistry lectures: homework/quizzes 20%, exams 60% and a comprehensive final 20%.
General chemistry labs: lab reports 50%, quizzes 20-30%, exams 20-30%.
Biochemistry: quizzes 10%, exams 70%, comprehensive final 20%
Homework policy
The online homework will have specified due dates to receive credit for the assignments.
Attendance policy
Attendance is not part of the assessment for the course but it is strongly encouraged and missing class periods can result in missed assignments, quizzes and exam scores.
Availability
I am available during my posted office hours and by appointment as needed. I can also be reached by e-mail and voice mail for questions and problems.
