What will I learn?

You make personal decisions in everyday life that involve the law. Within business and employment contexts, those professional decisions are increasingly important.

In business law courses at JCCC, you’ll learn how to:

  • Explain the structure and functions of the American legal system
  • Apply the principles of business ethics to business situations
  • Apply the legal elements and defenses for crimes, intentional torts, negligence and strict liability to factual scenarios
  • Apply the basic principles of common law to relevant contracts
  • Apply the basic principles of the Uniform Commercial Code to sales contracts
  • Explain the principal-agency relationship as it relates to businesses
  • Identify the different forms of business organizations
  • Identify the principles of the laws of property, bailments, estates and trusts, and insurance
  • Identify business regulations in the areas of administrative law, consumer protection laws, employment law and environmental law

You’ll be taught by professors with law degrees who have a passion for teaching and a deep understanding of the law and practical applications within a business context. Our professors bring their real-world legal experiences to the classroom. There are no teaching assistants and you won’t be lost among thousands in a large lecture hall. Class size won’t top 24.
