Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Biology
Class Format
Face-to-face sections:
I teach BIOL 134 as a face-to-face course. Class periods will consist of a combination of lecture, class discussion and occasional group work. Lectures are interactive and will take up no more than a third of the class period in order to provide ample time for discussion, reflection and creative problem-solving. Speaking up in class and participating in discussion is encouraged.
Resource Use
Book:
"Environmental Custom" by Willams, 2013
"Sustainability Revolution" by Edwards, 2005
Other readings as assigned
Online homework:
Online homework will consist of weekly informal writing assignments corresponding to assigned readings. Assignments are due prior to each class.
Assessment
Your performance in my class will be assessed by your weekly online writing assignments, 3 in-class exams, a research paper and service project.
Homework Policy
Readings will be assigned to correspond with each week’s topics. Participation in class is highly encouraged and it will be difficult for one to participate in discussion and problem-solving if one did not do their homework. In order to get the most out of the class, read your homework. Homework completion will be assessed in the form of reflective writing assignments, to be submitted prior to the corresponding class to ensure you are ready to engage with the rest of class.
Attendance Policy
Attending class is critical to getting the most out your intellectual investment in the course. Readings and reflections on your own will be enhanced, challenged, reimagined by in-class investigation. You should really come to class. That said, you will not be graded on your attendance. You should want to come to class.
