Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Biology

Class Format

Face to face: Students can download and print PowerPoint lecture notes prior to class time. Classes usually start with a short review of information from the previous class, usually in a question/answer format. This gives me a feel for how well you are learning the material and what I might need to go over again.

Resource Use

Book: Used for reference. I follow the book but do not give assignments from the book. I will not include test or quiz questions that I did not specifically talk about in class.

Software: Limited

Assessment

There are four multiple-choice exams following each section. A study guide is provided prior to each exam. The final is combined comprehensive and new material. The comprehensive portion will be based on questions asked in previous exams. There are regular quizzes that are in short answer/essay/fill-in-the-blank format and may include anything discussed in lecture. There are no pop quizzes. Regular assignments will be given. Assignments include an article with practical applications to the material being discussed, plus questions about that topic that may or may not be included in the article.

Homework Policy

I expect homework to be turned in on the due date and quizzes and exams to be taken on their scheduled days. Make-ups will be provided for valid reasons and only when advanced notification is provided.

Attendance Policy

Attendance will be taken and students are expected to be at every class. Points will be deducted for poor attendance.

Availability

Students may email, call or text. I am on campus at designated times or by appointment.
