- ECG Technician Certificate
This course goes far beyond teaching you to apply electrodes and operate the ECG machine. You will learn how to read and interpret ECGs and differentiate cardiac rhythms.
ECG, or electrocardiography, technicians are responsible for monitoring a patient’s heart through its electrical signals and working with other healthcare professionals to translate these results.
JCCC’s program combines both classroom and clinical settings to prepare graduates for certification and employment.
What does the program include?
This 60-hour program includes 40 hours of didactic and practical training on the JCCC campus and one day of clinical experience at Olathe Medical Center working one-on-one with ECG technician staff in performing ECGs in a variety of hospital units. You will be prepared to sit for national certification upon successful completion of this course.
Topics covered include:
- Cardiac anatomy and physiology
- Principles of reading the ECG
- Proper placement of electrodes
- Patient confidentiality and professional ethics
- Infection control
- Equipment maintenance
Upon successful completion of the didactic section of the course, students are assigned one day of clinical experience at Olathe Medical Center working one-on-one with ECG technician staff in performing successful ECGs in a variety of hospital units. Experience with Holter monitors and echocardiograms will be included.
