This celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s death showcases the music of Beethoven’s teacher and the father of the quartet, Joseph Haydn, and his two best students – Mozart and Beethoven. Audiences will be treated to an early Haydn quartet (Op. 64, “Lark”) and a late Mozart quartet from the same time period (No. 16 in E flat), followed by Beethoven’s Op.130 in B flat major with the Grosse Fuge, one of Beethoven’s most complicated works.
The Opus 76 Quartet, Kansas City’s up-and-coming string quartet, is known for its entertaining and energetic interpretations of the classics. Kansas City audiences may recognize the quartet from its “Classical Series” at the Old Mission United Methodist Church. These performances typically feature works by Mozart, Haydn or Beethoven.
Members Keith Stanfield and Zsolt Eder (violins), Ashley Stanfield (viola) and Sascha Groschang (cello) perform more than 50 concerts a year across the United States. The quartet also performed at the Ad Astra Music Festival in Russell, Kansas, in July 2019.
