Why Study Abroad?

When you study abroad with JCCC, you will gain an entirely new worldview. The International Education office holds all programs, both faculty-led and those through a partnership, to a high standard of academic excellence, health, safety and enrichment.

Challenge yourself professionally, academically and personally in programs that match your goals. Whether you’re looking for a safe environment to explore the world, learn a new language, take subjects in English while experiencing a new educational system, go on an internship or simply spend some time in another part of the world, we’re here to help you find something that checks all your boxes!

Study Abroad Options

Get an immersive experience with minimal time commitment abroad, usually two weeks or less. Experienced, knowledgeable JCCC faculty lead these programs with specialized academic themes. Visit popular sites, interact with locals, and gain a better understanding of the country’s social, political, economic and artistic cultures. Class meetings can happen before and after the travel portion, with traveling happening during semester breaks, in winter, spring or summer.

These programs take place at foreign partner institutions where academic credit is granted by the foreign institution. These programs are taught by faculty at the foreign institution. These programs can range from 2 to 8 weeks, usually over summer term. There are options all over the world for this program type!

Some classes can transfer into your degree program. Consult with a study abroad advisor to see what options might be available for your degree program. Programs can be taught in English or other languages if you meet edibility requirements at the institution. Language classes can also be taken. These programs do not usually require a student visa.

Like traditional short-term, these programs take place at foreign partner institutions where academic credit is granted by the foreign institution and are taught by their faculty. These programs are longer, usually between 10 and 15 weeks in length, and align more with the entire fall or spring academic semester. These programs can include language classes, subject courses taught in English or a foreign language, or internships. These programs usually require a student visa.

“I applied for as many scholarships as I could in hopes of getting a fully funded Study Abroad trip. I had no idea it would work as well as it did.”

Study Abroad Requirements

Each study abroad program at JCCC has its own requirements, which can include a minimum GPA. In general, you need to be 18 or older with a valid U.S. passport that won’t expire until at least six months after your program ends.
