History has a way of orienting us in our present moment by providing context and reason. It’s pivotal for all of us to reflect on the past—both positive and negative—and shape a better future for ourselves and others.

What will I learn in JCCC's History program?

When you study history at Johnson County Community College, you'll feel like you are reading a best-selling novel or watching a megahit movie based on true events. One of the fascinating things about history is the patterns you may find as you study different time periods. You’ll get caught up in actual events that have changed the world.

As a history student, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Earn college credit by attending faculty-led study abroad trips to places like England, Greece, Germany, Italy and more.
  • Explore lecture topics and gain historical knowledge through museum trips.

The history courses at JCCC also allow you to connect with knowledgeable professors with doctoral degrees who are experts in their field. These professors are authors and practicing historians who have presented guest lectures across the county, state and country.

Why JCCC?

At JCCC, you can also explore history internships and networking opportunities, such as with groups that range from the National Trucking Society to local museums and historical societies. You can work 10 hours a week for up to 3 college credits to supplement your coursework.
