OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Model United Nations team from Johnson County Community College received Distinguished Delegation award at the 2016 National Model United Nations conference for their representation of the Kenya.

In addition, three JCCC team members were chosen by the conference for staff positions. They include:

  • Megan Deitz, Lawrence, co-chair of the General Assembly Committee

The conference, held with the United Nations facility in New York City as a backdrop, ran from March 27 to 31. More than 5,000 students attended.

JCCC was evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Participating in committee, evaluated both during formal and informal (caucusing) sessions
  • Proper use of the rules of procedure, since NMUN uses the rules of procedure to facilitate effective workings of committee and debate

“The National conference was a great learning experience,” said participant Makayla Johnson of Baldwin City, Kansas, adding that she used “problem-solving, team-building and research skills.”
