OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College board of trustees plans to interview five candidates for the board seat vacated by former trustee Bob Drummond, who resigned from the board in March after serving as a trustee since 2009.

At a special meeting yesterday, April 26, the board reviewed eight applications to fill the vacancy and decided to interview the following candidates:

  • Steven Baru, Overland Park, retirement education specialist
  • Bobby Love, Olathe, senior pastor, second Baptist church of Olathe
  • Melody Rayl, Olathe, attorney-at-law, Fisher & Phillips, LLP
  • Henry Sandate, Shawnee, self-employed, State Farm agent
  • Tony Thill, Overland Park, president-CST International, executive vice president-Global Storage Sales

The trustees will interview the candidates at a special meeting that will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in the Hugh Speer Board Room, 137 GEB, on the college campus.

At that time, the candidates will have five minutes to present themselves to the board, and then the board will have 15 minutes to ask each candidate questions.

One candidate will be selected that day and will be seated for the board meeting on Thursday, July 21. The successful candidate will fill the remainder of Drummond’s term, which expires January 2018.

The other applicants were:

  • Mark Biersmith, Tennessee, moving to Johnson County, resigned as president, COO and CFO of Aerial Investments, Inc.
  • Ryan Freeman, Shawnee, account manager, Alexander Open Systems
  • Miguel Morales, Olathe, information specialist (library aide), Johnson County Community College
Applicants must be residents and registered voters in Johnson County to be eligible for consideration.
