- JCCC interior design receives reaccreditation from NKBA
June 24, 2016
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The interior design program at Johnson County Community College has received reaccreditation from the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), effective until 2022.
The NKBA accredits college and university programs that specialize in kitchen and bath design. Students who graduate from these programs may sit for an exam that certifies them as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer (AKBD).
Bobanne Kalkofen, professor and chair of interior design at JCCC, said she was delighted to receive the accreditation. JCCC is the only NKBA-accredited program in Kansas, she noted.
“The JCCC interior design faculty team developed and delivered excellent curriculum and showcased our outstanding student work,” she said.
NKBA reviewers interviewed students and professors, studied curriculum and looked over student projects. The judges responded, “Student work/projects indicate a clear understanding” and “Excellent student examples!” In the four categories studied for accreditation, JCCC received the highest rank of “exemplary” in every one.
JCCC began offering an associate of applied science degree in kitchen and bath design in 2015 and was accredited by NKBA for more than 10 years, though the interior design program has been in existence at JCCC since 1969.###
