8 Effective Ways JCCC Students Can Prepare for Finals

Get an “A” in test prep with JCCC’s resources and tips!

Ready to ace your exams this semester? Follow these steps to study smart and finish strong.

1) Find a good study spot

JCCC has dedicated study spaces all across campus. You can check out a laptop or tablet, find an area with desktops and PCs or reserve a room for your study group. Focus on your work in a quiet space with all the tools you need to succeed. Reserve your study spot.

2) Take advantage of free tutoring

JCCC’s expert tutors can help you with any subject in any credit course. Meet with your tutor online or in-person for as many sessions as you need. Visit the Academic Resource Center on the 1st floor of Billington Library to schedule a meeting with a tutor.

3) Make time for mindfulness

Taking breaks is important! Drop in for free yoga sessions at the Fitness Center leading up to finals week and practice mindful breathing with controlled poses and movements. If you need a place to yourself, visit the Meditation Room in COM 309 for prayer, mindful meditation and relaxation.

4) Fuel your brain with balanced meals

Instead of studying on an empty stomach, feed your mind and your body with fresh, made-to-order plates crafted daily from JCCC’s Dining Services. Sit down for lunch with friends or grab a quick, filling bite between classes. Dig in and find Dining Services locations, hours and menus.

5) Study with classmates

There’s strength in numbers, and that includes the number of people you study with! Go over notes with your classmates in the Student Lounge, COM 322. Or recharge with coffee and pastries while finishing a project in Stacks Café in Billington Library.

6) Visit your instructor during office hours

Your JCCC teachers are ready to answer your questions in and out of the classroom. Stop by during office hours and review unfamiliar concepts and course material. Arrive prepared by knowing the areas you’d like to cover. Quick organizing helps you and your instructor work together.

7) Request accommodations

Access Services is ready to help you determine the accommodations you need in each class. This can range from additional test-taking time, assistive technology and test proctoring. See what Access Services offers and apply for assistance.

8) Take a deep breath regularly

Finals can seem overwhelming, but with the right preparation and strategizing, you’ll be ready to take on the week. Pause, breathe and remember JCCC is in your corner.
