Meet the author of “Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth."

Hear how this fifth-generation Kansas farm girl, child of a carpenter and a teen mom, became a National Book Award finalist. Heartland was also this year's JCCC Common Read book. Much of her work addresses issues of class, politics, and gender, all of which intersect in her New York Times bestseller.

The public is invited to learn more about her writing and work as a journalist at this free event.

Sponsored by the English Department and the Kansas Studies Institute.
