Join fellow civic-minded students to share your on-campus service learning and civic engagement experiences and learn more about what other students have done.

Call for Proposals

We want to know how you have incorporated public service into your education and added value to your life and the lives of others, specifically:

  • How have you benefited by including service and civic engagement in your education?
  • In what ways has your service complemented your educational discipline or major?
  • How has your service and civic engagement affected you and your values and improved your community?
  • What was the process you used to identify what needed to change, and what did you do?

You can submit a proposal in one of the following categories:
Please limit submissions to one per person/group. If your proposal is accepted, you must register and attend the conference. See below for more specific guidelines.

  • Formal Student Presentations
Choose the formal student presentation if you want to share the results of a service or civic engagement project and want formal presentation experience. You will have 20 minutes to deliver your presentation and take questions. Ideally, you should allow three minutes for questions and discussion.

  • Interactive Roundtable Discussion
Roundtable discussions can cover any topic related to service and civic engagement and should include an interactive component. You can present individually or as a group made up of students, staff or faculty. The discussion typically includes 20 minutes of presentation followed by 40 minutes of discussion and feedback. Preference will be given to discussions that facilitate open dialogue, group learning and networking.

  • Poster Session
Student posters should report data and research results from projects related to service and civic engagement. They will be displayed in a formal hourlong session. You (or someone from your group) should be present to discuss and answer questions about the poster.
    • Posters should be at least 18 x 24 inches
    • All posters must be delivered to the conference by the presenter
    • Easels will be provided

  • 7-Minute Student Presentations
The 7-minute presentation provides a unique opportunity to learn how to condense information while still engaging your audience. This is a valuable career skill for connecting with or selling to an audience when you have minimal time.

For your proposal, be prepared to provide:

  • Presentation title
  • Description or summary of your presentation
  • Technology needs beyond a projector and a screen
  • Presenter names and contact information. You can have up to four presenters, but one should be identified as the primary contact.
