Biography

Ever since Michael Bridge and Kornel Wolak were set up on a blind (musical) date by Bridge’s accordion professor at the University of Toronto, they’ve been touring the world and giving hilarious answers during their popular post-concert Q&A sessions.

Fun-loving guys with seven music degrees between them, they represent the modern idea of musician-entertainer-educator. The duo frequently offer school concerts and university master classes and lectures while on tour. Both Bridge and Wolak began studying music at 5 years of age, Wolak in Poland and Bridge in Alberta.

Wolak teaches clarinet at Queen’s University and is a pioneer in collaborative research on oral articulators with the University of Toronto’s Speech Language Pathology department. He has published several scientific, peer-reviewed articles and two books on woodwind pedagogy.

A highly decorated accordionist, Bridge placed second at the World Digital Accordion Championships, won the Canadian championships twice and was the 2013 Grand Champion of the Calgary Stampede Talent Search. He is the North American artist-ambassador for Bugari Evo digital accordions and is completing his doctorate in accordion at the University of Toronto.

Bridge & Wolak were nominated for British Columbia Touring Artist of the Year in 2019 and have collaborated with CBC, TVO and other broadcasters for TV and radio specials. They gratefully acknowledge Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council for financially supporting their international touring.

Bridge & Wolak will also perform live during Midwest Trust Center’s upcoming season.
