Undergraduate Research Assistant

Bachelor of Arts, Anthropology, University of Kansas, in progress
Associate of Arts, Liberal Arts, Johnson County Community College, 2015

I was born in Mexico and grew up in Oklahoma, and eventually graduated from Ringwood High School in 2012. After graduating from high school, I moved to Kansas City and matriculated at Johnson County Community College until I graduated in the fall of 2015. I am currently a junior at KU working on my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with a minor in Latin American and Indigenous Studies.

I was part of the 2016 AIHREA Summer Internship and had the opportunity to work with American Indians in Northeast Kansas as well as in South Dakota. After that I was offered a research assistant position at the Center for American and Indian Studies at Johnson County Community College.

The internship, as well as the research assistant position, have helped me to learn more about AIHREA and CAIS. Both of these opportunities have also led me to choosing my career in public health. In the future I would like to pursue my Master’s in Public Health, after I receive my BA in anthropology.
