SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society
SALUTE is a nationally recognized collegiate honor society, founded at Colorado State University in 2008. The goal of SALUTE is to recognize, reward and honor the academic accomplishments of current or former members (of any branch) of the United States Armed Forces, Armed Forces Reserve and National Guard, and veterans of any of the aforementioned branches who have received an honorable characterization of service upon discharge.
According to their mission statement, members of SALUTE are "students who represent every slice of American military and veterans in higher education, at two-and four-year institutions. Members include retirees, disabled veterans, active duty military, National Guard and reservists returning to higher education, starting second careers or helping fund their college careers with military service."
Just as each student is different, so too are his/her unique academic achievements. That's why SALUTE has designated an exclusive four-tier level of recognition for members with grade point averages within the 3.00 to 4.00 range.
These individual tiers are not only a sign of prestige and accomplishment, the students from charter-member organizations within specific tiers may also receive access to further scholarships and funding as determined by the national office.
As students improve their GPA, they may petition the national office for an upgrade to the next appropriate tier without having to re-apply.
