GED Tests
About GED Tests
All 50 states, 10 Canadian provinces, and all U.S. territories use passing scores on the GED tests as the basis for awarding high school equivalency credentials. The GED test given at JCCC allows individuals an opportunity to earn a State of Kansas high school diploma.
The tests measure high school-level achievement in five subject areas:
- Language Arts, Writing
- Language Arts, Reading
- Social Studies
- Science
- Mathematics
The General Education Development (GED) tests are administered to approximately 700,000 people each year. One out of seven high school diplomas granted in the United States is based on passing the GED tests.
Preparing for the GED
Adult Basic Education, which prepares you to take the GED, is offered through Johnson County Adult Education, an educational program sponsored by Johnson County Community College and the Johnson County Library. This program offers a GED practice test.
The GED consists of four multiple choice tests and one multiple choice and essay test which measure achievement in subject areas generally associated with a high school program of study.
You must meet specific requirements as required by the state of Kansas. Preregistration is required.
