The investigations division follows leads developed during the initial reporting of criminal activity to the JCCC Police Department.
The division is ready to respond anytime -- day or night -- to the needs of crime victims or to the scene of any criminal activity.
The division's first work is to follow up on reports of criminal activity initially reported to our uniformed patrol officers.
The division then establishes that a criminal act was indeed committed, attempts to identify and apprehend the person responsible for the criminal act, and tries to recover any property that may have been stolen.
The division is also responsible for forensic examination of crime scenes along with the evaluation, collection and maintenance of evidence.
The division plays an integral part in assisting the state of Kansas in prosecuting suspects charged with offenses. The JCCC police department may also use the services of the office of vice president of student services, in lieu of proceeding with criminal charges.
The division is overseen by the chief of police, and the day-to-day activities are managed by the day sergeant. Investigative personnel receive specialized education and training in:
- Homicide investigation
- Sexual assault and battery investigation
- Narcotics investigation and identification
- Interview and interrogation techniques
- Crime scene processing
- Financial fraud investigation
- a Many other investigative disciplines
The division works in cooperation with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
