Resume & Cover Letter Development
If you are a JCCC credit student or alumni in an active job search, you can bring a draft of a resume and/or cover letter to the career development center to be critiqued. No appointment is necessary. Use the Resume and Correspondence Guidelines for assistance in creating a draft.
Interview Practice
The more you practice interviewing, the more comfortable and prepared you will be and the better you will do. The following resources can help you improve your interviewing skills and give you an edge over your competition.
Big Interview – Use Big Interview to learn and practice your interview skills, whether you’re interviewing for a job or graduate school.
New users can register for an account with any email address by entering registration code 0534. You will need to create an eight-character password. Note: Please use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Big Interview is an online system that combines training and practice to help improve your interview technique and build your confidence. You will have at your disposal a variety of tools including:
- Challenging, virtual mock interviews for all experience levels and dozens of industries
- A database of thousands of interview questions with tips on how to answer them
- The ability to rate and share your interview answers for feedback
- A comprehensive video training curriculum covering all aspects of landing a job
- A step-by-step interview Answer Builder for crafting answers to behavioral questions
Interviewing Guidelines - Interviewing is a skill that requires practice to make a good “first impression.” To achieve success in an interview process, research yourself, the company and the position, practice responses to possible questions, and dress appropriately. This resource will provide you with tips on interview preparation and examples of commonly asked interview questions.
Mock Interviews - Interview preparation done in a formal and recorded practice session with feedback is available for credit students and alumni who have a pending job interview. Mock interviews must be scheduled in advance. If you would like a copy of your video, bring a flash drive to the mock interview session.
