Who are Polysomnographic Technologists?
Historically, most sleep technologists have received informal training in a sleep laboratory or sleep center via an apprenticeship.
While being a registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) is not required at this time to enter into the sleep profession, it is rapidly becoming the preference of sleep disorder centers. The eligibility requirements to take the RPSGT examination of the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) allow candidates who have completed a comprehensive training program accredited by the commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) to qualify for the board exam without a required period of paid experience on the job or the need for other allied health credentials.
The Johnson County Community College Polysomnography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Graduates of the program will enter the field as Polysomnographic Technicians and be prepared to sit the national exam given by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) to gain the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential.
