Eligibility for the Ceremony

Commencement is held once a year in May. Those invited to participate in the commencement exercises are the graduates from the prior summer and fall semesters and the current spring graduation candidates who have submitted a graduation application.

Although the commencement ceremony only occurs once a year, students may apply for graduation during any semester in which all degree or certificate requirements have been met. The Application for Graduation must be received by the deadline date noted on the application.

March Graduation Letter Mailed to Current Address

A letter concerning details of the commencement ceremony for graduates will be mailed in March. This letter includes:

• Location and Time the ceremony begins
• Cap, gown, announcements and other information of how to purchase
• Meeting location and time for the graduates and rules to help you make this a positive experience
• Photographer requests
• Guest information

Questions regarding the commencement ceremony may be directed to 913-469-3807. If you have changed your name or address, submit a Name/Address Change Request Form to Admissions prior to applying for graduation. This will help ensure that the correct name is recorded on the diploma or certificate and that it is mailed to the correct address.

A final audit of the student’s record is then conducted at the end of the semester. If all degree or certificate requirements have been met, the completion of the degree or certificate is recorded on the student’s transcript. Diplomas and certificates are mailed to students approximately 3 weeks following the last day of the semester of graduation.

Commencement Ceremony Guidelines

1. Graduation Night - Report to the JCCC Field House, GYM 003-the lower level of the GYM, no later than 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012 to pick up your reader card. You will line up for the processional at this time. The processional will proceed in two columns to the Gymnasium at 7:25 p.m.
2. Pictures - A professional photographer will take several color photos of each graduate, one of which will be taken as the diploma cover is presented. The proof will be mailed/emailed to you shortly after the ceremony and additional prints may be ordered.
3. Reception - After the ceremony, you and your guests are invited to a reception held in the Commons area.
4. Security Reminder - Please do NOT bring purses, etc., as there is no place to securely keep them or staff to watch them.

After you receive your diploma, please return to your seat for the remainder of the ceremony to show respect for all graduates.
