Volleyball - Top ranked Lady Cavaliers easily sweep Labette

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 1 ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team improved to 5-0 in the conference and 14-1 overall after making quick work in a 3-0 sweep over Labette Community College, Wednesday evening at the JCCC Fieldhouse. 

The Lady Cavaliers opened with a 25-14 win in the first set and followed with wins of 25-15 and 25-9 to complete the sweep. 

Sophomore hitter Anna Hester had a productive night. She collected 12 kills and hit .625 for the match. Freshman Kayla Neigenfind followed with nine kills and an impressive kill percentage of .750. 

Sophomore setter Jade Askren added 33 assists to bring her season total to 524, currently seventh-best in the Jayhawk Conference. 

Freshmen Rylie Barnum and Kyndal Bowie each recorded double figures in digs for the match. Bowie led the team with 12, and Barnum added 10. Barnum is currently sixth in the conference standings with 305 total digs for the season. 

Johnson County is hosting it’s annual JCCC Challenge Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29. The Lady Cavaliers will face North Platte Community College at 2 p.m., then take on Iowa Western Community College, the No. 3 ranked team in NJCAA Division I, at 6 p.m. On Saturday morning, Johnson County will face No. 18 Des Moines Area Community College at 9 a.m., and will close out the event against Central Community College-Columbus at 1 p.m. Also competing in the Challenge are KJCCC opponents Coffeyville Community College, the No 3 team in D-II, and Fort Scott Community College.
