Students recognized at athletic academic night

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College athletic department honored 115 students involved in athletics, dance and athletic training for academic excellence on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2016, between the women’s and men’s basketball games against Hesston College.

This past fall, 66 percent of the students associated with the athletic department maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or better (115-174). Twenty-five student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point. This marks the fourth consecutive year that over 60 percent of the department achieved a 3.0.

Some of the top teams last fall were the softball team with 82 percent of its roster at 3.0 or better. Baseball was at 78 percent, women’s soccer at 75 percent, and volleyball and men’s cross county/track were each at 71 percent.
