M. Basketball - Lupardus earns his sixth player of the week honor

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore guard Anthony Lupardus is making a strong case to for player of the year in the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference. On Tuesday, Lupardus was named the KJCCC D-II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for a sixth time, which ties him with former JCCC All-American Danzel Wright for the most weekly honors in a season. Wright was named player of the week six times in 2015-16. Lupardu has won the award eight times over this two seaons at JCCC, most by any player.

Last week, Lupardus averaged 16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists while helping the Cavaliers extend their winning streak to 12 straight games, and secure the KJCCC D-II conference championship. Lupardus also shot 50 percent from 3-point range for the week.

For the season, Lupardus leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a points per game average of 20.2. He recently scored his 1,000th career point, and currently stands fifth all-time with 1,114 points. He needs just eight more to pass Justin Leathers for fourth-place.

Lupardus is also second in team history with 163 3-point baskets, and needs just 10 more to surpass Wright for top spot.
