W. Basketball - Johnson County women reach Region VI title game

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team extended its streak of making the Region VI championship game to 18 straight by defeating Labette Community College a 57-49 in Parsons, Kan., Saturday afternoon in the region semifinal round.  It was the second time this season the Lady Cavaliers won on the Cardinals home court.

Sophomore guards Tristen McFeders and Cerena Reeves finished with 16 and 14 points respectively, and freshman guard Jacionna Stowers knocked in 11 to lead the Lady Cavaliers. Reeves also had a game-high nine rebounds.

JCCC’s defense was the key to pulling out the victory. The Lady Cavaliers held Labette to 24 percent shooting from the field, and to just nine percent from 3-point range. They finished the game going 2-for-23 beyond the arch.

Johnson County was not significantly better, shooting 32 percent and 19 percent from 3-point land, but they made enough shots to get the job done.

The Lady Cavaliers will travel to Park City, Kan., to face undefeated and No. 3 ranked Highland Community College at Hartman Arena, Wednesday, March 7 at 1 p.m. The game can be seen live on the KJCCC Sports Network or listen to the call live from JCCC play-by-play announcer Mark Miller on The 1660 The Score app.

Johnson County will be looking to capture their second straight Region VI D-II title and 16th overall.
