Soccer - JCCC Soccer teams sweep Neosho County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women’s and men’s soccer teams got much-needed KJCCC East Division wins with a road sweep of Neosho County Community College in matches played Tuesday, Sept. 25.

In the opener, the Lady Cavaliers got a pair of goals from Kayla Brasher, and single goals from Gerorga Vernadarkis and Kara Pascarella to post a 4-0 shutout. With the win Johnson County improves to 5-4-1 overall, but stands 4-1-1 in conference play, good for second place behind 5-0 Butler Community College.

Vanessa Silva saved all five shots she faced and earned her second shutout of the season. 

In the nightcap, the Cavaliers got on the board in the 37th minute on a goal by Luke Andrews. Axxel Chazaro gave Johnson County a 2-nil lead in the 80th minute with his team-leading six goal of the season. 

Neosho County got on the board in the 87th minute on a score from Alfie Belcher, but the Cavaliers kept the Panther at bay the final three minutes to pull out the win. 

Pedro Henrique Ivaskoski registered seven saves and lowered his goals against average to 1.90. 

The Cavaliers are now 7-4-0 on the season, and are in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Neosho County and Kansas City Kansas with 3-2-0 marks. 

Both teams are in Texas this weekend for matches against two of the top Division I and Division III program in the NJCAA. On Friday, JCCC will take on Tyler Junior College. The TJC women are the No. 1 ranked team in Division I, and the men are ranked second.  On Sunday, the team will be in Dallas to take on Richland College. The Thunderduck women are the top-ranked team in NJCAA D-III, and men are currently No. 2 in the poll.
