M. Basketball - JCCC secures conference title with 12th straight victory

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team secured the 2017-18 Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference title with an 85-71 home win over Labette, Saturday afternoon.  The victory also extended the team’s current win streak to 12 straight. 

Sophomore guard Anthony Lupardus led all scorers with 21 points. He hit 6-of-11 field goals, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, and was a perfect 4-of-4 at the line. He also contributed six assists and two rebounds. 

Freshman forward Xavier Womack posted a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Womack hit 8-of-12 shots along with three free throws. 

Also finishing with 19 points was freshman guard General Williams. He was 8-of-13 shooting, with three 3-pointers. He also dished out five assists. 

Sophomore guard Mat Baldeh came in off the bench to pour in 13 points, and freshman point guard Berlin Roberson added 11, as the Cavaliers shot 53 percent from field. 

Frank Royals led Labette with 15 points.

The Cavaliers final two games are on the road. They face Fort Scott Community College on Wednesday, then finish regular season at Hesston College on Saturday, Feb. 24. A win in either game secures the Cavaliers the No. 1 seed in the Region VI playoffs that begin Wednesday, Feb. 28.
