W. Basketball - JCCC extends home court win streak to 52

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The fourth-ranked Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team found itself in a battle with cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College on Wednesday night in the Region VI opener for both programs. JCCC raced out to a 15-4 first quarter lead only to see their double-digit lead dwindle to just a two-point lead at halftime, 28-26.

Johnson County seized control early in the third quarter with a 16-3 run on their way to a 67-56 victory over the Blue Devils, as the Lady Cavaliers (17-4, 1-0) pushed their home court winning streak to a record 52 games.

Sophomore guard Kylee Williams nailed four 3-pointers and led Johnson County with 16 points. Sophomore guard Tristin McFeders followed with 14 points, and freshman point guard Paige Elston added 10 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. 

Freshman center Juella Brown came in off the bench to contribute six points and eight rebounds.

Johnson County has two big road games over the next seven days. On Saturday, the Lady Cavaliers will face No. 3 and undefeated Highland Community College (21-0, 1-0) followed by No. 7 Labette Community College (16-3, 0-1) on Wednesday, Jan. 31 in Parsons, Kan. Highland narrowly edged Labette 67-64 on Wednesday in their region opener.
