M. Basketball - Cavaliers win 11th straight and secure share of conference title

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team won its 11th straight game Wednesday night, downing Highland Community College 74-66. With the victory the Cavaliers sweep the season series with the Scotties and assure themselves at least a share of the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference title.

Four players finished in double figures for the Cavaliers. Sophomore guard Marquawn Wilson led the way with 15 points. He was 5-of-8 from the field, and 3-of-6 from 3-point range. He also tied for the team high in rebounds with seven.

Sophomore Mat Baldeh, JCCC’s super-sub this season, came if off the bench to pour in 13 points. Most of his damage was done at the line, hitting 8-of-11 attempts.  Sophomore Anthony Lupardus and freshman General Williams each contributed 11 points. Lupardus also had five rebounds and seven assists.

Johnson County will look to secure the conference title outright on Saturday when they host Labette Community College at 4 p.m. The Cavaliers took the first game on Jan. 31 in Parsons, 109-77.
