Baseball - Cavaliers open season with shutout over Rockhurst JV

OVERLNAD PARK, Kan. – The 17th ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team opened its 2018 season on Thursday afternoon and came away with a 7-0 shutout victory over Rockhurst University JV.

Seven different players drove in a run, including a leadoff home run by sophomore Matt Johnson and solo shots by sophomores Brian Sullivan in the second and Chaz Burgess in the fifth.  Sullivan also doubled and scored on a single by sophomore Ty Herrenbruck in the fourth inning.  Sophomore catcher Jake Karst drove in Herrenbruk with a triple and scored on freshman Blake Shannon’s ground out to the shortstop to give the Cavaliers a three-spot in the inning.

The Cavaliers also got an RBI single of the bat of freshman Jacob Owens in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Sophomore right-hander Brad Kincaid was the opening day starter and he was nearly perfect. He allowed just one hit and struck out 11 Hawks in his 5.2 innings of work. Freshman right-hander Dylan Bierman closed out the game allowing just two hit and no runs.
