M. Soccer - Cavaliers down MCC-Blue River 4-2 in the rain

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Playing on a water logged turf field at Scheel’s Overland Park Soccer Complex, the Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team battled through the rough playing conditions to record a 4-2 win over MCC-Blue River, Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Luis Alanis scored two goals in a span of four minutes midway through the second half to give the Cavalier a 3-0 advantage. Alanis netted his first goal in the 66th minute off a feed from freshman midfielder Brad Tully. Freshman Eduardo Goulart fed Alanis four minutes later for his second score.

Sophomore Sung Min Cho, the team’s leading scorer last season, got the Cavaliers on the board with a score in the 26th minute of the first half. It was his team-leading fifth goal of 2018. Freshman Axxel Chzaro provided the assists, his second of the season.

MCC-Blue River cut their deficit to two with a goal in the 81st minute, but three minutes later freshman forward George Quinly fired ball toward goal off a corner kick and Tulley footed it in to put the Cavaliers up by three again.

MCC-Blue River earned a goal in the 85th minute off an own goal by a Cavaliers player, making the final 4-2.

Freshman goalkeeper Pedro Henrique Ivaskoski saved seven shots to earn his fourth win of the year.

Johnson County will open conference play on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they host Allen Community College at 4 p.m.
