W. Soccer - Pascarella nets four in 7-0 playoff win over Barton

Kara PascarellaOVERALND PARK, Kan. – Four goals by freshman forward Kara Pascarella powered the Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team to a 7-0 win over Barton Community College in first round action of the 2017 Region VI Tournament. Pascarella scored in the 20th, 25th, 30th and 43rd minutes of the first half to put the Lady Cavaliers up 5-nil at the break.

Her four goals tie the third-best match total in team postseason history.  She added an assist on the seventh goal scored by freshman Cortlyn Ash to give her nine total points on the day, tying her for sixth all-time in a postseason match.

Sophomore Paige Downey also had a big day. After scoring he first goal on what proved to be the game-winner, Downey earned the assists on three of Pascarella’s four goals, and one to freshman Jesse Cummings in the 49th minute of the match. Her four-assist effort ties the second-best singe match mark in team postseason history.

Sophomore Chloe Harrington provided the assist to Downey and freshman Manuela Gonzalez had the assist on Pascarella’s other goal.

Freshman Vanessa Silva and sophomore Hannah Inglima shared the shutout, each earning one save. Silva played the first half and was the goalkeeper of record.

Johnson County now advances to the semifinals where they will No. 6 Coffeyville Community College on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka, Kan. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Coffeyville advanced by stunning No. 3 seed Hutchinson 2-1 on the Blue Dragons home field. The winner of JCCC and Coffeyville will face the winner between No. 1 seed Cloud County and No. 4 seed Butler for the Region VI title on Friday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
