Basketball - McFeders and Lupardus earn conference player of the week honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After the first week of action for the 2017-18 college basketball season, two athletes from Johnson County Community College were honored for the play during that time.  Sophomore guard Tristen McFeders of the women’s basketball team, and sophomore guard Anthony Lupardus of the men’s team were each selected as Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Basketball Players of the Week.

McFeders is off a strong start to her 2017-18 season. McFeders averaged 18.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.7 steals while leading the Lady Cavaliers to three victories. In a 93-30 season opening win over Bethel JV, McFeders led JCCC with 19 points. She also had eight rebounds, two assists and three steals. She followed with 14 points, six boards, five assists and two steals in a 77-43 win over cross-town rival MCC-Penn Valley on Nov. 3, and followed that up with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six steals in an 83-73 win over North Central Missouri College.

Lupardus was the top player for Johnson County in their two losses to nationally ranked teams last week. In a shocking buzzer beating loss to No. 6 Indian Hills, Lupardus was fantastic finishing with 15 points, four rebounds, seven assists, three steals while committing just one turnover. He followed with a game-high 22 points in a loss to No. 14 Kirkwood the next afternoon. He also had four rebounds, four assists and a steal, and again had just one turnover. For the week, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
